Does one have to take the commercial glider written exam if he has a SEL Commercial rating?
I do not think so, but that eould be an FAA question.
No knowledge test is required in this case FAR 61.63(b)(4). Always go to the FARs for questions like this.
I checked with the Baton Rouge FSDO Office who confirmed if you have a SEL Commercial rating you just need an oral and the check ride and do not have to take a written commercial. Thanks for the help.
The memory aid I use to remember: power to power, no written; powered to unpowered, no written; unpowered to power, written required.
