Toro Japanese Steakhouse Review: A Family-Run Gem in Vero Beach (2026)

Toro Japanese Steakhouse in Vero Beach is a hidden gem, offering an exceptional dining experience that surpasses the typical hibachi grill. Under the leadership of new ownership and management, Toro has elevated its service and food quality, providing a unique and memorable culinary journey.

The restaurant, owned by a family of Indonesian-born Komang Suati, Pande (Didi) and Novia Rudiarta, Sherwin and Mirah Wiguna, and Yenick (Ochen) Sunariat, showcases their love for Japanese fusion cuisine and deep expertise in the field. From the moment you step in, you'll notice the attention to detail and the warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Toro's hibachi grill room buzzes with energy, but the staff ensures a cozy and intimate dining experience. The menu boasts an extensive selection of teriyaki, hibachi, and bento box options, catering to various tastes and dietary preferences. We started with a sweet potato sushi roll, a delightful combination of crispy tempura and a light sauce, followed by savory miso soup and a fresh salad.

The vegetarian dishes were exceptional, with the vegetable tempura featuring a generous assortment of fresh vegetables, lightly battered and perfectly crisp. The tofu yaki udon was a comforting masterpiece, with stir-fried tofu and sautéed onions tossed with thick, chewy udon noodles.

For meat lovers, the New York strip steak was a highlight, lean and thinly sliced, cooked to perfection, and served with a flavorful teriyaki sauce and a side of sautéed vegetables. The bento box, a delightful variety of chicken katsu, tempura vegetables, a California roll, and fried rice, was a satisfying conclusion to our meal.

Toro's staff was professional, accommodating, and genuinely welcoming, making each guest feel valued. Despite the familiar decor, the overall experience is refreshingly new and well worth a visit. Toro Japanese Steakhouse is a must-try for anyone seeking a unique and delicious Japanese dining experience.
